MCP Apps and events
Understand Sheet previews and the optional draft Sheet-change event extension.
Sheet previews with MCP Apps
A compatible MCP host can render view_sheet as an interactive table. It shows the Sheet title, columns and first bounded page from an authorized read. A host without UI support receives structured content instead.
The preview is a presentation surface. Use sheets.query to read further data and canonical operations to edit. App support varies by client; connecting MCP does not automatically install a native ChatGPT plugin.
Optional Sheet-change events
Leadbase implements an optional draft MCP Events extension for sheet.changed. It is separate from normal tools and depends on server configuration and host support. Check advertised capabilities and events/list; do not assume that every MCP client supports these methods.
When available:
- Authorize a connected account with
offline_accessand a read or write scope. - Provide a publicly reachable, approved HTTPS callback and webhook signing secret. The server verifies the callback with a challenge; arbitrary callback origins are not accepted.
- Subscribe through
events/subscribewith the Sheet ID and delivery configuration. - Store the returned cursor and refresh before
refreshBefore; subscriptions expire unless refreshed. - Unsubscribe with
events/unsubscribewhen finished.
The default subscription lifetime is one hour; the supported range is one minute to 24 hours. Replay is bounded to the retained 10,000-event suffix. If the response says truncated, re-read the Sheet instead of treating the event stream as complete history.
Delivery and authorization
Payloads contain sheetId, sequence, contentRevision, changeType and url, not cell contents. Read current data through Sheet tools after a notification. Verify webhook signatures, handle duplicate deliveries and preserve cursors; delivery is retried on eligible failures and is not an exactly-once edit log.
Authorization is checked during subscription and delivery. Delivery stops when the connected account loses access or its authorization expires. Events do not grant access to another Sheet or workspace.
Leadbase does not provide a generic webhook-management settings panel. Use this supported extension only when your host and deployment advertise it. Ordinary MCP reads and writes remain usable without event subscriptions.
