Review history and recover a version

Inspect a prior Sheet revision, name important milestones, and restore deliberately.

Open History from a Sheet header to inspect its immutable change history. The history view loads a selected revision beside the current Sheet, so you can compare it before you make a recovery decision.

Find the right revision

Use the history filter to show all activity, changes, or named versions. Select an entry to view that revision; choose Current version to return to the live Sheet. A named version is a label for a revision you want the team to find later, such as “Before Q3 import” or “Approved outreach list.” Managers and owners can create and rename those labels.

Restore safely

Restoring a version is a new shared operation, not a private preview. Before you start it:

  1. Check the selected revision and the rows or columns that will change.
  2. Tell collaborators why the recovery is needed.
  3. Save a named version of the current state if it may be useful later.
  4. Start the restore and wait for the Sheet to return to its current, editable view.

Only managers and owners can manage versions and restore them. Editors can read history but cannot restore a version; viewers cannot open history. For a single recent committed action, try Undo first. Use version restore when you need to return the shared Sheet to an earlier revision.

Archive is different from history

History works inside an active Sheet. Archiving removes a Sheet or folder from the active library; restore archived items from Archive in the library header. See Archive for that workflow.
