Roles and access

Distinguish workspace membership from access to an individual Sheet.

Workspace roles

The active workspace has owner, admin, and member roles. Owners and admins manage organization-wide settings such as membership and billing where the product grants them access. Members work within the workspace but do not manage those settings.

Sheet roles

Each Sheet can additionally grant viewer, editor, or manager access. Owner is the Sheet’s existing ownership role and cannot be assigned through a normal Sheet grant. This lets a person participate in one Sheet without giving them broad control over every Sheet in the workspace.

ViewerRead the current Sheet.
EditorRead and edit data, and read its history.
ManagerEverything an editor can do, plus rename or move the Sheet, manage and restore versions, manage sharing, save a template, and publish it.
OwnerFull control, including deletion and ownership transfer.

Review both layers when access seems wrong: a workspace member can still need a Sheet grant, and a Sheet grant does not turn someone into a workspace administrator.
